Budapest's Best Drunk Food

MONDAY, MARCH 09, 2020

Enjoying the dangerous delights of Budapest’s nightlife sure is hungry work, and whether it’s been a debaucherous night out at the ruin pubs, or a solid day drinking sesh in one of the city’s many cool parks, sooner or later you’ll probably find yourself wandering the streets, ravenous for something to eat.

To save yourself that agony, be sure to bookmark this article on your phone before you go - because we’re going to tell you what sort of top drunk food exists in Budapest!

Langosh

Langosh

Starting with a local delicacy, langosh is for the truly indulgent. Picture deep-fried dough, liberally slathered in sour cream and garlic paste, sprinkled with cheese and then served as is or topped with any manner of other treats like sausage, salami… or more cheese!

Langosh tends to be served from hole-in-the-wall sorts of places, and you’ll no doubt bump into a few on your travels - and look out for a few trendier places trying to put their artisan spin on this god-like treat. Check out Lángos GOZSDU, on Kiraly Utca - it's conveniently located in the middle of the party district and stays open until 4AM.

Street Food

Street Food

Like just about every other city in Europe, street food is booming here in Budapest. Walk around the city’s party-friendly Jewish Quarter and you’ll find plenty of vans flogging everything from burgers and hotdogs to wok food and Mexican.

One place we really want to recommend is Karavan - a street food courtyard located just a few doors down from Szimpla Bar, perfect if you want to fill your stomach before braving the masses.

Palacsintá

Palacsintá

Not many places would consider pancakes to be a quick eat sort of affair - but that’s not true in Hungary. We love our pancakes here, so much in fact that one place - Nagyi Palacsintázója - opens 24/7 so satisfy said cravings.

Found on Szent István Avenue, nearby to Nyugati Station, they’ve got both salty and sweet pancakes with all manner of toppings and indoor seating so you can linger and enjoy.

Chimney Cake

Chimney Cake

We get it, some of you have a sweet tooth, and all this talk of meat and grease isn’t exactly leaving licking your lips. For you, we offer the Chimney Cake - freshly rolled and charcoal griddled pastry covered in cinnamon, sugar, coconut or chocolate.

They’re sold from street stands all over the city, especially in areas popular with tourists. Granted you probably won’t find any open late at night - but these make a great addition to any daytime drinking adventure or picnic you’re planning.

Trófea Grill

Trófea Grill

What if we told you there was a place where you could combine the act of getting drunk and filling your belly? Trófea Grill is said place - with 5 locations all over the city, they’ve taken the art of all-you-can-eat to its logical next step, and added all-you-can-drink beer, wine, and champagne to the mix.

Refreshingly, the food isn’t crap either, it’s a huge buffet spread of meats, pasta, breads, seafood and salads - and rumor has it that they have some of the best pizza in town.
